As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the upcoming superhero flick, “Clayface.” This unique production combines pulse-pounding action sequences with a chilling dose of body horror that promises to deliver a truly unforgettable cinematic experience. The story unfolds around an actor who tragically finds his face disfigured at the hands of a ruthless gangster, setting the stage for a gripping tale of transformation and redemption. Can’t wait to see it on the big screen!
In dire need of an answer, he seeks help from a scientist (portrayed by Naomi Ackie), who miraculously remolds him into a clay-made being. Tom Rhys Harries takes on the lead role, while Eddie Marsan has been added to the cast for an undisclosed part. The Clayface character as portrayed by Matt Hagen is also anticipated in this film.
The original concept for the project was presented as a horror story centered around Clayface, with Mike Flanagan leading the charge due to his desire to delve deeper into the character’s darker aspects. Although Flanagan took on writing and producing duties, scheduling issues prevented him from directing. Subsequently, James Watkins stepped in as director, while Hossein Amini revised the script.
Filming commenced on August 31, right in Liverpool, England, under the temporary name “Corinthians.” Shooting took place at Derby Square, serving as a set for Gotham Hospital, and on North John Street, that was made to look like Gotham Docks.
Vehicles styled after Gotham City are being kept at the old Merseyside Police station headquarters. Film production is ongoing at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Rob Hardy, who previously worked on the DC Universe film Supergirl (2026), will be the cinematographer for this project.
The movie is created by James Gunn and Peter Safran from DC Studios, with Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris additionally serving as producers. Clayface is one of the films in DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and is scheduled to premiere in U.S. cinemas on September 11, 2026.
In a fun yet unsettling twist, the freshly-released video clip of Matt Hagen performing dances outside the Gotham Courthouse enhances the film’s brooding narrative with a touch of whimsy. This scene is indicative of the film’s aim to blend grotesque transformations and superheroic action while offering fans an initial glimpse into Clayface’s presence within Gotham City.
