As a huge fan, I was thrilled to hear that Cillian Murphy has officially confirmed the Peaky Blinders movie is happening! It’s slated for release in 2026, which feels like a long wait, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it. Apparently, the film – titled The Immortal Man – will pick up where the amazing British TV series left off, continuing the story we all loved from 2013 to 2022. And the best part? Netflix will be distributing it globally, so everyone will be able to see it!
The movie will feature many actors we know and love from the series. Cillian Murphy is back as Tommy Shelby, and Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, and Ian Peck will all return to their roles. Joining the cast are new faces like Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Jay Lycurgo, and Barry Keoghan.
Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight initially mentioned the possibility of a film following the conclusion of the TV show. In a 2023 conversation with Rolling Stone, Cillian Murphy stated, “I’d be open to continuing the story if there’s more to tell. However, it needs to feel worthwhile. Steve Knight crafted 36 hours of television, and we ended the series on a strong note. I’m very proud of the final season, so any continuation would have to be authentic and have a clear purpose.” By December 2023, Knight was completing the screenplay, and in March 2024, he officially confirmed that Cillian Murphy would reprise his role as Tommy Shelby.

Filming began on September 30, 2024, at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham, and continued at various locations throughout the West Midlands. The production team also filmed scenes in St Helens, Merseyside, at the site of the old Pilkington Watson Street works. Filming finished on December 13, 2024. The film’s producers are Steven Knight, Caryn Mandabach, Cillian Murphy, and Guy Heeley.
Throughout the next few months, the cast continued to grow. Rebecca Ferguson agreed to participate in July 2024, followed by Barry Keoghan in August. In September, Tim Roth and Jay Lycurgo were also confirmed. By October, several returning actors had signed on, including Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, and Ian Peck.
As a huge fan of the original, I’m really excited about this movie! It looks like it’s going to deliver more of that same dark, realistic crime story and those compelling characters we all loved. Having Netflix behind it and a fantastic cast gives me a lot of hope. I can’t wait to see what happens next with Tommy Shelby and the Peaky Blinders gang – I’ve been following their story for so long! It really feels like they’re continuing the legacy.
