As someone who has been in the music industry for decades, I must admit that it’s a tough and unpredictable world. My own journey was filled with countless hours of practice, rejection, and perseverance. With this in mind, when a young boy tells me he wants to be a musician, my heart swells with admiration for his ambition. However, I can’t help but feel a pang of concern as well. The music industry is fraught with competition, and the road to success is often long and arduous.

Contrary to popular belief suggesting that albums are on their last legs, they persist in thriving against all odds, proving skeptics wrong who foretold their downfall due to Napster, iTunes, the iPod, music streaming platforms, and the broader “culture industry.” However, it appears that Billy Joel has chosen a different path from this ongoing trend. Interestingly enough, he views songwriting as a form of torment, an aspect we will explore further in the following discussion.

To clarify from the start, you won’t find any tracks from “Aja” or its successor “Gaucho” on the subsequent list. I bring this up because I understand that “Aja,” Steely Dan’s sixth album, is adored by numerous fans. However, it’s safe to say that an equal number of fans dislike it, and I fall into that category.

As a dedicated fan, for quite some stretch in 2024, the buzz about Drake predominantly revolved around his epic clash with Kendrick Lamar, with many believing that Kendrick came out on top. However, come August 6, Tuesday, all that started to change dramatically when Drake dropped a whopping 100 gigabytes of content on the website 100gigs.org, shifting the conversation and making me wonder if the tide might be turning in his favor.

Axl Rose is a legendary figure in music, particularly known for his powerful scream-singing that echoed through some of the most memorable heavy metal anthems from the 1980s and early 1990s. His band, Guns N’ Roses, released iconic albums like “Appetite for Destruction” and the “Use Your Illusion” series, which are still widely recognized today. Although Slash and the rest of the group were exceptional, Axl Rose’s flamboyant stage presence and distinctive vocals truly define Guns N’ Roses.

For a long time, rock and heavy metal music scenes have predominantly showcased male artists. However, exceptional female vocalists have made a substantial impact in these genres too. Despite the industry being historically biased towards men, numerous women have brought distinctive and powerful voices to the limelight within rock and metal. Unfortunately, they don’t always get the recognition they truly deserve for their contributions.
