‘Shrek’ (2001)

Shrek, a grumpy ogre, discovers his peaceful swamp overrun with fairytale characters exiled by the power-hungry Lord Farquaad. He reluctantly agrees to rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon’s castle in exchange for getting his swamp back. During the adventure, he’s joined by a chatty donkey who teaches him that true beauty comes from within. This beloved animated film was the first to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and continues to be a popular favorite.
‘Renfield’ (2023)

In this horror-comedy, Nicholas Hoult plays Renfield, Dracula’s long-suffering assistant, who’s trying to start a new life in New Orleans. After years of serving the demanding vampire – brilliantly portrayed by Nicolas Cage – Renfield develops superhuman strength from eating insects and finally decides to break free. The film is a funny and action-packed story about overcoming a toxic relationship and finding personal growth, all with a supernatural twist.
‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ (2000)

A grumpy, green creature living on Mount Crumpit tries to spoil Christmas for the happy people of Whoville. Jim Carrey gives an amazing performance as this character, attempting to steal all the presents and decorations. Cindy Lou Who is key to changing his negative outlook and showing him what the holiday season is really about. The movie is famous for its incredible makeup and creative sets, which beautifully capture the style of Dr. Seuss.
‘Just Friends’ (2005)

Years after being an overweight high schooler, Chris Brander – played by Ryan Reynolds – returns home for Christmas as a successful music executive. He hopes to finally win over his childhood crush, Jamie Palamino. The movie follows Chris as he navigates the challenges of facing his past and also manages a demanding pop star, Samantha James. It’s known for its funny, over-the-top humor and festive winter atmosphere, and has become a fan favorite.
‘Die Hard’ (1988)

On Christmas Eve, New York City police officer John McClane goes to visit his separated wife at her office Christmas party. The party is interrupted when a group of terrorists, led by Hans Gruber, take over the building. McClane has to rely on his intelligence and police training to defeat the terrorists and rescue everyone inside Nakatomi Plaza. This iconic action movie is often discussed as a Christmas film and was a defining role for Bruce Willis.
‘The Bad Guys 2’ (2025)

The popular crew of reformed villains is back in a new movie that challenges their commitment to going straight. Mr. Wolf and his friends must protect their newfound good reputations when a new group of bad guys shows up. The sequel builds on the first film’s unique animation style and fast-paced action, and audiences are loving it for its funny moments and the great connection between the voice actors.
‘Pitch Perfect’ (2012)

When a new student named Beca joins the Barden Bellas, an all-female a cappella group, she helps them update their sound and bring fresh energy to their performances. The Bellas then compete against a rival male group for the national championship title. The movie is filled with creative song mixes and highlights the strong friendships that develop between the choir’s diverse members. It proved to be very popular, launching a series of sequels and helping to make competitive singing more mainstream.
‘The Croods: A New Age’ (2020)

The Croods, a prehistoric family, stumble upon a seemingly perfect, walled community built by the more evolved Betterman family. Differences in how the two families live cause friction, especially when Eep and Guy begin to fall for each other. They must overcome their disagreements and work together when a new danger threatens everyone. Featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage and Emma Stone, this vibrant sequel highlights the importance of working together and embracing change.
‘HIM’ (2025)

This suspenseful thriller, from the mind of Jordan Peele, centers on the complicated relationship between a famous football coach and a promising young player. It delves into the intense pressures of achieving success in professional sports and the personal costs involved. Justin Rivera plays the lead role, facing a series of unsettling events that take a toll on his well-being. The film has resonated with audiences thanks to its gripping atmosphere and insightful look at society.
‘Bugonia’ (2025)

Okay, so I just finished watching this new film by Yorgos Lanthimos, and it’s… something else. It’s a sci-fi thriller about two guys utterly convinced a powerful businesswoman is actually an alien sent to pave the way for an invasion. It’s classic Lanthimos – really dark, really weird, and surprisingly funny. It’s been all over Peacock, and for good reason; the story is totally unique, and the actors really deliver. If you’re looking for something different, definitely check this one out!
