James Gunn’s Superman movie has been a hot topic in recent discussions. The on-screen chemistry between David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan has received much acclaim, but it’s Bradley Cooper who left viewers surprised with his performance.
The brief appearance of the actor in the movie was surprising but powerful, providing the narrative with the necessary depth it needed.
In the superhero film, the leading star portrayed Jor-El, Superman’s father, a role that was first performed by Marlon Brando in the 1978 release of Superman. Notably, this character is introduced at the very start of the movie.
James Gunn talks about Bradley Cooper’s surprising cameo in Superman
During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, it emerged that the director and DC’s co-leader mentioned they had Bradley Cooper join their project, with the iconic Marlon Brando’s character serving as inspiration.
James Gunn stated, “I was searching for an actor capable of portraying Jor-El, someone with the imposing presence we associate with the character. Essentially, I wanted someone who could follow in the footsteps of Marlon Brando.
For several years, Gunn and Cooper have collaborated on various projects. They had previously teamed up during the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, where the actor provided the voice for the character Rocket Raccoon.
In the latest episode of Jake’s Takes, the movie director revealed that while working together on the Marvel films, his relationship with the Academy Award-nominated actor became stronger. This strong bond facilitated Gunn in asking Cooper to make a special appearance in the upcoming Superman film.
In our conversations since the ‘Guardians’ films, I hold him in high regard both as an actor and as a filmmaker.
He went on to ask, “Could you do me a kindness? Travel to England, let’s capture you in a 3D setting, create a holographic version of you, and you can portray the character of Jor-El.
Regarding the movie, it centers on Superman, who encounters challenges both in his private life and at work. His decisions are scrutinized, and throughout these conflicts, a tech magnate named Lex Luthor seizes an opportunity to eliminate Superman permanently from the scene.
Superman is running successfully in theaters.
