Billboard doubles down on Taylor Swift disrespect with Kanye West reference

As a long-time Taylor Swift fan and someone who has followed her career since her humble beginnings, I can confidently say that Billboard’s recent “honor” of Taylor Swift was nothing short of an embarrassment and an insult to the pop superstar.

It appeared that Billboard was attempting to pay tribute to Taylor Swift, but instead, they ended up mishandling it significantly. Instead of honoring the pop star, their actions seemed more disrespectful and potentially even insulting towards her. Taylor Swift might not openly discuss the matter, but she may rely on her fans, known as Swifties, to express their thoughts about the situation.

Initially, there was a debate about Taylor Swift being placed second on Billboard’s list of the Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century. Regardless of whether it’s justified or not, everyone has the freedom to hold such opinions, even if they may not align with the truth as perceived by Billboard regarding Taylor Swift.

In Billboard’s video ranking, Taylor Swift came in second place, but an excerpt from Kanye West’s song “Famous” was included, featuring a wax figure of Swift portrayed without clothes. There has been a past dispute between West and Swift regarding a leaked phone conversation, where West requested to use Swift’s name for the song and she refused, yet he proceeded with it anyway.

Billboard rightfully apologizes to Taylor Swift for callous disrespect

It’s quite a stretch for Billboard to connect anything related to West with Swift, particularly using a clip from that specific song. The person responsible for incorporating Swift into Billboard’s “honor” might need a serious reprimand, or even face dismissal. If we were to do something similar in our own workplaces, there could be consequences up to and including termination.

As a dedicated Swiftie, I’m delighted to share that Billboard finally acknowledged their mistake of using West’s song in Taylor Swift’s video by issuing an apology. This came after a wave of disapproval from fans like me who took to social media, expressing our outrage with the hashtags #BillboardIsOverParty and #BillboardApologizeToTaylor.

As a gamer speaking about the situation, I’d put it like this: “I messed up, Swifties. In one of our videos celebrating Taylor Swift’s accomplishments, we mistakenly used a false clip about her. We understand that this was wrong and have since removed it from the video. To Taylor Swift and all our readers and viewers, we’re truly sorry for any confusion or disappointment caused by our mistake.

According to Taylor Swift’s fans on social media, it wasn’t so much an “error” as it was a deliberate action by Billboard. It suggests that something slipped through unnoticed, when in fact there were multiple stages where Billboard could have intervened. The use of West in the tribute to Swift appears thoughtless and questionable judgment.
