Beyond Fest 2025 Releases Full Schedule of 90 Movies

Enthusiasts of cinema in Los Angeles recognize the unofficial start of autumn when Beyond Fest commences. This annual event, which celebrates eccentric and offbeat films from various genres, has become one of the most esteemed in the nation. A delightful fusion of classic repertoire pieces and fresh premieres, it’s an experience I can personally vouch for as being extraordinarily enjoyable. The upcoming festival will kick off on September 23 and continue for an impressive 15 days. The full list of films has been recently revealed, featuring an impressive 90 movies, so mark your calendars to go Beyond!

At Beyond Fest, it’s not just about watching movies-that’s the standard for a film festival. Instead, this event stands out by inviting an impressive array of filmmakers, actors, and other notable figures to attend various screenings. Among them are Guillermo del Toro, Luca Guadagnino, John Carpenter, Jafar Panahi, Karyn Kusama, Al Pacino, William Petersen, Tim Robbins, the band Butthole Surfers, and the renowned Japanese actress Meiko Kaji. Does that pique your interest?

The honors for both the opening and closing nights of the festival are given to two highly esteemed filmmakers in contemporary cinema: Park Chan-wook and Yorgos Lanthimos. Their films, “No Other Choice” (opening) and “Bugonia” (closing), frame this year’s extensive lineup.

Leading performances headline the festival yet again, offering a mix of stardom and genre excitement, featuring U.S. debuts such as Aziz Ansari’s film “Good Fortune” with Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen, and Keke Palmer, and Bryan Fuller’s horror masterpiece “Dust Bunny,” starring Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver.

Upcoming West Coast premieres feature:

* The nerve-wracking comeback of Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill with the sequel to “The Black Phone” titled “Black Phone 2“.
* Luca Guadagnino reveals harsh realities through “After the Hunt“.
* Gore Verbinski presents a unique screening of his action-comedy film “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die” as its theatrical debut.
* Mary Bronstein introduces her insightful work “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” alongside stars Rose Byrne and Conan O’Brien.

As a fanatic of pulse-pounding action, I can’t help but be thrilled by the explosive portrayal of Action Cinema this year, featuring the most exhilarating films that leave you on the edge of your seat. The legendary stunt performer Kenji Tanigaki unleashes his infamous fight extravaganza, The Furious, at the Egyptian Theatre for its highly-anticipated U.S. Premiere. In Sisu: Road to Revenge, Jalmari Helander fires off bullets and bombs against the Red Army, while Steven Kostanski reimagines the timeless character of Deathstalker in Psycho Goreman, packed with awe-inspiring practical effects and an overload of gory spectacles.

This year, Evrim Ersoy, Beyond Fest’s Head of Programming, mentioned that we’re honoring a wide range of filmmaking styles, from art films to gritty ones. Our aim has consistently been to bridge film communities with diverse filmmakers, and the exceptional variety in this year’s program-boasting numerous premieres and restorations-reflects our dedication to our mission and the influence of genre cinema.

At Beyond Fest, the tradition of saluting iconic film personalities with memorable live events continues. In addition to the previously announced Guillermo del Toro retrospective, renowned Japanese actress Meiko Kaji is set to make her first-ever U.S. appearance, marking a significant milestone in her career. To celebrate her decades of remarkable performances, Beyond Fest will showcase a unique series of 2K restorations featuring movies like “Lady Snowblood,” “Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion,” and “Blind Woman’s Curse.” The event will also include a conversation between Kaji and Oscar-winning director Sean Baker, providing an extraordinary chance for audiences to witness the charm, intensity, and lasting impact of one of Japanese cinema’s most captivating figures.
