Ben Affleck and Matt Damon share a deep connection that goes beyond a typical Hollywood friendship – it’s a creative partnership that has shaped both of their careers. Back in 1999, Damon told the Los Angeles Times that Affleck has always had a natural charm that’s now captivating audiences. While it’s still sometimes surprising to see his close friend as a major star, Damon believes Affleck’s success stems from his authenticity – he’s genuinely himself on screen, and people are naturally drawn to that.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck recently showcased their long-standing creative partnership in the 2022 film Air, which detailed Nike’s efforts to sign Michael Jordan. In an interview with People magazine, Damon shared that his relationship with Affleck is the most important thing to him, and admitted that his career would be much more difficult without his friend’s support.
He explained that having someone to confide in over the past 25 years has been crucial in dealing with the unusual aspects of fame. It’s not surprising, then, that when Affleck was asked to name his three favorite movies in 2021, he included their 1997 hit Good Will Hunting.
He completed his top three with the films he directed, Gone Baby Gone and The Town. Though those films represent important achievements, Affleck continues to expand his work as a filmmaker and actor, frequently using his production company, Artists Equity, to create stories focused on complicated relationships and human experiences.
I’m so excited to see Ben Affleck and Matt Damon continuing to work together! Their new movie, The Rip, just came out on Netflix on January 16th, and it’s fantastic. It’s a really intense action thriller about two Miami cops who stumble upon a huge sum of money and have to deal with the consequences. Everyone’s saying their chemistry is amazing as always, and it really drives the story of a friendship pushed to its limits. It’s getting great reviews too – currently 79% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes! As of February 2026, they’re really on a roll!
Ben Affleck is busy directing and starring in a new crime thriller called Animals. Originally, Matt Damon was going to be the lead, but scheduling issues with a Christopher Nolan film meant Affleck took over the role himself, joining Gillian Anderson and Kerry Washington in the cast. The movie centers on a mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped, and the desperate measures he and his wife take to rescue him.
Recently, Affleck also brought some fun to his fans by appearing in a Super Bowl commercial for Dunkin’, playfully revisiting his Boston background. The ad, called Good Will Dunkin’, showed him as a brilliant mathematician working at a donut shop and even featured a cameo by Tom Brady. Despite juggling promotion for The Rip and The Accountant 2, Affleck continues to be a major force in Hollywood.
