‘Barbie’ Star to Play Aphrodite in ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Season 3

Okay, big news for fans of the series! I’m hearing Kate McKinnon is signing on for season three of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” and she’s taking on the role of Aphrodite. That’s right, she’ll be playing the Greek goddess of love and beauty – I think that’s a fantastic casting choice and I’m really excited to see what she brings to the part!

The show describes Aphrodite as a goddess who can change how she looks to different people. She’ll only help Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) with his quest if he proves he understands and values love.

Kate McKinnon is famous for her ten years as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live,” where she worked from 2012 to 2022. She received ten Emmy nominations and won two awards for her work on the show. Beyond SNL, she’s also acted in several movies, including “Bombshell,” “Yesterday,” “The Spy Who Dumped Me,” and the 2016 remake of “Ghostbusters.”

Kate McKinnon recently starred as Weird Barbie in the movie “Barbie” and Carole Baskin in the Peacock series “Joe vs. Carole.” She’s coming up next in the Hulu sci-fi film “In the Blink of an Eye,” directed by Andrew Stanton.

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is a television series adapted from the bestselling books by Rick Riordan. Riordan developed the show with Jonathan E. Steinberg, and both serve as showrunners alongside Dan Shotz.

Rick and Rebecca Riordan, along with producers Steinberg and Shotz, Craig Silverstein, Bert Salke, and the team at Gotham Group, are also executive producers on the show. The cast features Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, and includes Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn, and Daniel Diemer. Variety first reported the news.

The show originally launched on Disney+ in 2023, and the second season will be available starting December 10th. Filming is currently underway in Vancouver for Season 3, which will be based on the novel “The Titan’s Curse.”

McKinnon’s addition to the cast is exciting, and viewers can’t wait to see her portrayal of the goddess of love. Her comedic skills and ability to create memorable characters could bring a playful and new dimension to the show.
