In the far-off year of 2025, should Phil Lord and Chris Miller be venturing into new projects, count me among their eager audience. This dynamic duo, known for their roles as producers, writers, and directors, have consistently delivered unique spins on our beloved classics that leave us in awe. From the riotous comedy of 21 Jump Street to the inventive animation of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The LEGO Movie, and the brilliant Spider-Verse series – each one showcases their exceptional ability to reimagine familiar material with freshness and intelligence.

While initially questioning the necessity of a film adaptation based on the 85-year-old Archie Comics series, the prospect of Lord and Miller bringing their genius to the table has me hooked. And that’s precisely what they’re doing! So here I am, ready to embark on this exciting new adventure with them at the helm.

As reported by Variety, the duo is set to create a live-action Archie Comics film in collaboration with Aditya Sood, president of Lord Miller Productions, under their initial agreement with Universal Pictures. Notably, renowned comic book writer and potential cornerstone of the new DCU, Tom King, is penning the script for this project.

For a long time, we’ve been ardent supporters of Archie, Veronica, Betty, and their friends across various adaptations. Hearing Tom King’s unique perspective on this iconic material sparked an immediate thought – it would be perfect for a blockbuster movie that caters to both old and new fans. We can’t wait to bring these cherished characters to the silver screen!

It’s likely that the upcoming adaptation of King’s material will distinguish itself from the current Riverdale series, which took a different path. We don’t anticipate it venturing into the dark horror genre like DC Comics’ Sabrina or Afterlife with Archie comics. Instead, something similar to Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie might be more fitting.
