The upcoming film, Couture, is generating buzz following the release of its trailer. Directed and written by Alice Winocour, the movie features Angelina Jolie in the starring role, alongside Louis Garrel, Ella Rumpf, Garance Marillier, Anyier Anei, and Finnegan Oldfield.
This movie centers around an American filmmaker in Paris for Fashion Week. Initially a professional assignment, her trip gradually becomes a more personal exploration. The film delves into themes of creativity and self-discovery, while also offering a look at the lives of those working in the fashion industry. Angelina Jolie stars as Maxine Walker, a filmmaker who undergoes a transformation through her experiences and the connections she makes.

Couture debuted in September at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of its Special Presentations lineup. Following this, the film was shown at festivals in San Sebastián, Rome, and Manila, where it served as the opening film for the QCinema International Film Festival.
A major highlight of the film is its unique filming location. ‘Couture’ is the first fictional movie ever granted permission to film inside Chanel’s Paris showroom and workshop. Director Alice Winocour had the rare opportunity to film actual fashion shows and observe the people who create the clothes. She aimed to portray the world of fashion through the eyes of the workers and from a female perspective, rather than focusing solely on the designers themselves.
The actors for the movie were revealed in late 2024, when it was initially known as ‘Stitches.’ Shortly after, filming started in Paris, and the movie’s title was changed to ‘Couture’ in early 2025.
I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about this film, and early reactions are overwhelmingly positive. Pete Hammond from Deadline was particularly impressed, especially with Angelina Jolie’s performance. He described it as a really captivating look at the human side of people we often just see doing their jobs – a surprisingly vulnerable portrayal. In fact, he thinks it’s one of the best performances of her entire career, and I’m definitely intrigued to see if I agree.
