I don’t get as upset anymore when performances I love aren’t recognized by the Oscars or Emmys like I used to. It still bothers me that great performances can be overlooked, but there are only a limited number of spots in each category. It’s unfortunate that so many deserving people go unrecognized, but it’s something we have to accept, you know? However, I can’t help but feel frustrated when shows like Andor‘s second season were mostly ignored by the Television Academy this year. Forest Whitaker and Alan Tudyk were the only actors from the series to receive nominations out of its 14 total nominations in other categories. Even though creator Tony Gilroy understands that awards like the Emmys aren’t everything, he must also recognize the lasting impact of his stars’ performances and find it absurd that they were overlooked.
Gilroy, ever mindful of his words, shared with Deadline that there were numerous performances from his show which he believed deserved an Emmy nomination in 2025. He specifically pointed out the oversights concerning Diego Luna and Genevieve O’Reilly, but also mentioned that at least a dozen other performances from the series were deserving of recognition.
While that figure may seem impressive, viewers of Andor will attest it’s far from it. Despite not being expected to earn twelve nods, its star-studded cast, featuring Luna, O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Denise Gough, Elizabeth Dulau, Kyle Soller, Ben Mendelsohn, Adria Arjona, and Anton Lesser, collectively didn’t receive any nomination. This is particularly surprising given that the Academy had no issue recognizing every cast member from The White Lotus.

Gilroy remained optimistic despite the Emmy snubs for Andor, expressing that an Emmy award pales in comparison to the “greatest victory” his actors have already secured. He stated, “These performances will continue to be celebrated and debated for many years. I am confident about this.
We’re quite certain they won’t. We’re optimistic about that. It’s just as certain in our minds that their lack of Emmy nominations is still baffling.
