Alpine Puts Its A390 Fastback Concept Through Polar Testing

The Alpine A390 coupe, which is nearly ready for release, is being put through tough cold-weather trials in Sweden’s Arctic region prior to its unveiling on May 27, 2025. As the premier electric sports coupe from Alpine, the A390 aims to reshape performance within this category while upholding the brand’s reputation for agility and driving enjoyment.

The A390, a sports car built for five passengers, aspires to offer both practical everyday use and exhilarating high-performance driving. To guarantee its durability, reliability, and peak performance on snow and ice, the engineers subject it to harsh conditions including temperatures down to -40°F. They are meticulously adjusting essential systems such as Alpine Active Torque Vectoring, a three-motor powertrain, and a freshly introduced “Track Mode” during this process.

Philippe Krief, CEO of Alpine, underscored their brand’s aspirations: “Our engineers have channeled all their skill into making our five-seater sport fastback as agile and exhilarating as our legendary A110. This creation delivers an unforgettable experience that mimics the feeling of driving on a frozen lake, all while providing drivers with panoramic views through the side windows.

The A390 model not only excels in performance but also reflects Alpine’s unique design philosophy, drawing inspiration from the A390_β show car and the Alpenglow concept. Its distinctive lighting signature, along with aerodynamic features such as a hood blade and micro-perforated grille, offer a blend of aesthetic appeal and practical functionality. Although much of the cabin is still concealed, it’s expected to sport a sporty Nappa leather steering wheel adorned with direct-access controls reminiscent of Alpine’s Formula 1 race cars.

Made in Dieppe, France, the A390 showcases Alpine’s partnerships with Devialet for a cutting-edge sound system and Michelin for custom tires. The grand reveal of this innovative electric vehicle will take place during Alpine’s 70th anniversary celebration.
