You’ll find dates and platform information for each title to help you plan your viewing.

This month offers a diverse range of shows, from a tense story about an astronaut who believes she brought something dangerous back from space, to a stylish animated spy series featuring a seasoned agent. There’s also a funny take on aliens adjusting to life in the suburbs, and a thrilling new Argentinian series about cyber-revenge debuting on streaming platforms.

‘The Astronaut’ (2025)

‘The Astronaut,’ written and directed by Jess Varley, follows NASA astronaut Sam Walker (played by Kate Mara) as she returns to Earth with a secret. She begins to believe something alien came back with her. The film also stars Laurence Fishburne, Gabriel Luna, and Ivana Miličević. Produced by The Wonder Company and Grinder Monkey, ‘The Astronaut’ is 91 minutes long and will be released in theaters on October 17, 2025.

Varley’s first feature film as a writer and director was filmed in Ireland in late 2023. David Garbett handled the cinematography, Joel Griffen and Terel Gibson edited the film, and Jacques Brautbar composed the music. Recent reviews have praised the film’s unique alien-inspired design and its focused, intimate setting.

‘Solar Opposites’ (2020– )

Solar Opposites is an adult animated comedy series about a group of aliens – Korvo, Terry, Yumyulack, and Jesse – who crash-land on Earth and try to fit in. The show was created by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan, and stars Dan Stevens, Thomas Middleditch, Sean Giambrone, and Mary Mack as the main alien characters. New episodes will be available on Hulu starting Monday, October 13, 2025.

This show is a funny family comedy with ongoing storylines like “the Wall” and “Silvercops.” It was originally developed for Fox but is now a Hulu original. The creators, Roiland and McMahan, continue to guide the show’s unique sci-fi and satirical style, and Hulu is where you can stream it in the U.S.

‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch’ (2025– )

Inspired by the popular ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell’ video games, ‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch’ is a new animated action series for adults. Created by Derek Kolstad, it stars Liev Schreiber reprising his role as the experienced secret agent Sam Fisher. The voice cast also includes Janet Varney as Anna “Grim” Grímsdóttir and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Zinnia McKenna. You can start watching on Netflix on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

Kolstad is the lead writer and executive producer, while Guillaume Dousse directs. The animation is being done by Sun Creature and Fost. Ubisoft recently shared the guidelines they’ve given to ensure the show respects the original character and franchise. They also confirmed that Michael Schreiber will be playing an older version of Sam Fisher, replacing the original voice actor from the games.

‘Mar.IA’ (2025)

‘Mar.IA’ is a new Argentinian sci-fi horror film directed by Gabriel Grieco and Nicanor Loreti. The movie centers around Maria Black, a former adult film star who vanishes and returns as a cyborg seeking revenge. Daria Panchenko stars as Maria, with William Prociuk and Magui Bravi also featured. The 81-minute film will be available to stream on Apple TV starting Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

The film is being promoted as a violent, futuristic revenge story, drawing comparisons to both ‘Terminator’ and ‘I Spit on Your Grave’. It’s directed by Grieco and Loreti, stars Panchenko, and is now available on home video, digitally, and through streaming services.
