Ah Um Design Studio, a rapidly emerging furniture design company, is preparing for its first appearance at NYCxDesign, showcasing an expanded Jura Collection as part of the Wanted group exhibit at the ICFF.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but be drawn to the intricate charm of the handmade line, a creation close to my heart. My obsession lies not only in the physical texture that these items possess, but also in the profound emotional texture they bring to the act of designing and living with them.

Ah Um’s style is characterized by its tangible craftsmanship and textured aesthetics, evident in the mix of rough wooden types and sun-kissed tiles arranged in unconventional, off-center patterns and angular shapes. As Zack put it, “There’s something profoundly emotional, historical, and thoughtful about being able to see and touch the traces of human hands that shaped or designed an object.

The unique Tiled Accent Chair showcases personal style through its uneven armrests, while its textured tiled design mirrors tactile elements commonly found in kitchen countertops, bathroom tiles, and public areas. On the other hand, the Jura Dining Chair emphasizes various woodwork aesthetics, featuring rough edges, circular openings, and square legs. This design aligns with that of a compact wooden side table, characterized by its jagged sides, and a large mirror embellished with a zigzag border framing the frame.

Starting in 2024, Zack delved into larger woodworking projects beyond creating hardwood cremation urns with the introduction of products like the Jura Coffee Table, Stool, Side Table, Mirror, Pedestal, and Bench. At Wanted Booth #W854 from May 18-20, Ah Um Design Studio will unveil additional items for this line, such as a Dining Chair, another Side Table, a Club Chair, an Accent Chair with tiles, and a Tiled Floor Lamp. Prior to ICFF, the Tiled Floor Lamp will be showcased at Public Records on May 15 as part of Hello Human and Openhouse’s joint exhibition.
