So, Advance Auto Parts [AAP 7.36%] is down today. Six-point-nine percent. Apparently, because of… Greenland. Greenland! I mean, you’d think a car parts company would be insulated from whatever geopolitical nonsense is happening in the Arctic, but no. It’s always something. And the market just reacts. Like a bunch of… I don’t even know. It’s just… irritating.
They’re saying tariffs. Tariffs! Like that’s new. It’s always tariffs with this guy. And the stock goes down. Predictable. Everyone panics. It’s the same story every time. I swear, these analysts… they lower a price target from sixty-two to forty-six, and suddenly it’s a crisis. Forty-six! It’s still a number, people! It’s not like it went to negative forty-six. That would be something.
The Greenland Thing
Honestly, the Greenland thing is just… distracting. It’s like, can we focus on the actual business for five minutes? They source stuff from China, Canada, Mexico. Europe is… secondary. But no, it’s Greenland. And everyone assumes it’s going to trigger some global trade war. It’s just… exhausting. It’s like everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop. And it’s always a loafer. Never a sensible, well-made shoe. Always a loafer.
This analyst, Rakhlenko, from TD Cowen… he’s part of the problem. Lowering the target. Like that helps anything. It’s just… performative pessimism. And everyone else jumps on the bandwagon. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy, I tell you. A self-fulfilling prophecy involving car parts and a frozen island.
The Real Issue
Look, Advance has been… lagging. Let’s be honest. O’Reilly and AutoZone… they’re doing something right. Or maybe Advance is just… doing it wrong. It’s not rocket science. It’s car parts! But they are showing some signs of life. Three percent comparable sales growth. That’s… something. And they’re raising their full-year guidance. Small victories, I guess. But don’t get me started on their website. The search function is a disaster. I was looking for a simple oil filter, and it took me fifteen minutes. Fifteen minutes! It’s a car part, not a rare artifact.
And here’s the thing. A weak economy? Good for them. People fix their own cars when they’re broke. It’s basic logic. But will they remember to buy the parts? That’s the question. And will the website still be a nightmare? I’m telling you, it’s the little things that get you. The little things.
So, everyone is selling off today. Fine. Let them. I’m not saying it’s a steal, but it’s… less of a rip-off. I’m just saying, maybe, just maybe, there’s a turnaround happening. Or maybe it’s just a mirage. I don’t know. I just wish the website was better. Honestly, that’s what really bothers me.
