Fans are getting a fresh look at Adeline Rudolph as Kitana in the upcoming Mortal Kombat II movie. Continuing the story from the 2021 film, the sequel is scheduled for release in theaters on May 15, 2026, and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Simon McQuoid directed the new movie, and Jeremy Slater wrote the script. Several actors from the original film are back, including Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman (playing a different character this time), Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada.
The cast also includes Karl Urban, along with newcomers Adeline Rudolph as Kitana and Tati Gabrielle.
Following the release of the 2021 movie, the team behind it – producer Todd Garner, writer Greg Russo, and director Tom McQuoid – began brainstorming ideas for future installments.
Talks covered the possibility of creating separate stories centered around fan-favorite characters such as Johnny Cage and Sub-Zero, and also making a brand new Mortal Kombat movie. Warner Bros. gave the green light to Mortal Kombat II in 2022, bringing back the team of Slater and McQuoid to continue the narrative.
Filming for the project started in Australia in June 2023, but paused briefly in July because of the actors’ strike. Production continued in November and finished in January 2024. The movie will center on Earthrealm’s heroes – including Johnny Cage – as they battle to stop Shao Kahn, whose power puts their world in danger.
Mortal Kombat II blends familiar faces with fresh characters, aiming to build on the success of the first movie with more of the exciting action and martial arts fans loved.
