Heritage Auctions is holding a unique event auction to commemorate Studio Ghibli‘s 40-year milestone. The sixth installment of “The Art of Anime” will feature an array of anime collectibles from Hayao Miyazaki’s workshop, which produced iconic films such as “My Neighbor Totoro,” “Spirited Away,” “Princess Mononoke,” “Kiki’s Delivery Service,” and “Castle in the Sky” among others.
Among more than 60 lots related to Studio Ghibli, you’ll find production cels, backdrops, and exclusive items showcasing the main characters from the films, along with beloved sidekicks such as Catbus, Lady Eboshi, and Haku transformed into a dragon.
Apart from the Studio Ghibli offerings, the auction will feature notable items from other iconic Japanese animations. These include original hand-painted production backgrounds from Katsuhiro Otomo’s 1988 sci-fi thriller Akira, sketches and drawings from Pokémon and Sailor Moon, along with cels, books, posters, and prints from Dragon Ball Z, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, and Perfect Blue.
The Art of Anime event is happening from March 22 to 24, both online and by appointment at our Dallas headquarters. This auction continues Heritage Auctions’ dedication to anime enthusiasts and collectors, as the previous year’s “Art of Anime and Everything Cool Auction” garnered almost $3 million USD in collectible items.
