A ‘Scooby-Doo’ Live-Action Series Is Coming to Netflix

The news is confirmed – Netflix is now actively developing a new, live-action version of the popular Scooby-Doo series.

Back in April 2024, I learned that my favorite series was given a green light by the streamer for a full season! As per Variety, the show will delve into the early days of the Mystery crew, when they first joined forces with their beloved Great Dane. Netflix has commissioned eight episodes, and Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are set to write and run the show. They’ll also serve as executive producers, along with André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner under Midnight Radio, and Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman under Berlanti Productions. It’s exciting to know that WBTV holds the rights to the Hanna-Barbera characters, so we can expect some classic characters to make an appearance!

Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s vice president for scripted series, announced in a statement, “Scooby-Doo and the gang are making a comeback! We can’t wait to introduce this classic character to television as a live-action series for the first time. The enduring influence of this franchise on popular culture is undeniable – its themes of friendship have resonated with fans across generations. In collaboration with Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio, we’re dedicated to providing enjoyment for longtime fans while introducing a new generation to the world of spooky adventures.”

“During their last summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne find themselves entangled in a chilling mystery involving a solitary lost Great Dane puppy who might have witnessed a supernatural murder. Joined by the logical and analytical Velma, and the enigmatic yet charming newcomer Freddy, they embark on a mission to solve this case that is drawing each of them into a haunting nightmare capable of revealing their deepest secrets.

The current live-action “Scooby-Doo” production isn’t a first; the well-known film from 2002 featuring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini and Neil Fanning as the voice of Scooby has already been released. As for this new series, we don’t have a confirmed release date at the moment.
