The movie’s narrative is centered around an unexpected event involving 17 students from the same class who went missing on a single night. Among its star-studded cast are Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.
One distinctive aspect of the film is its structure, which breaks down the narrative into separate segments, each dedicated to a unique character. Initially, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Cregger had included a chapter in the script that delved deeper into Gladys’ past, but it was ultimately removed to prevent the movie from becoming overly lengthy.
Following the blockbuster performance of the film, there’s been talk about expanding that absent chapter into an entire movie on its own. At this point, no agreement has been reached and no premiere date has been set, but the concept is certainly under consideration.
Currently, Cregger is occupied with another project. He’s in Prague, working on a Resident Evil reboot for Columbia Pictures, set to release on September 18, 2026. The Hollywood Reporter indicates that he’ll be earning $20 million for this task, which is quite substantial for a director working on his third movie.
