A First Look at Cadillac’s Wild and Ultra-Luxurious CELESTIQ

Back in 2022 when Cadillac unveiled early images of its CELESTIQ EV, we were eager to find out more, just by looking at its design. Now, three years later, there are actual production models on the road, and we were fortunate enough to be part of the first group to test drive these newly launched Cadillac CELESTIQ vehicles. This unique opportunity allowed us to discover the exceptional features that come with this ultra-premium, custom-built electric vehicle.

The Cadillac CELESTIQ is being marketed as a symbol of its heritage; it’s not so much for buyers concerned with their daily commute, but rather for an exclusive clientele seeking something extraordinary. This strategy seems to hark back to the golden era of Cadillac in the 1940s and ’50s, when the brand was closely associated with the elite and affluent. It could be argued that this image faded with the Cadillacs of the 2000s and beyond, but the handcrafted CELESTIQ undeniably represents a return to the visually striking, top-tier quality vehicles that discerning customers anticipate, especially given its high price tag.

To kick things off, the CELESTIQ stands out uniquely on the highway. Immediately catching your eye is its extended wheelbase and profile (130 inches and 18 feet respectively), further emphasized by the long hood and angled rear “trunk.” There’s a hint of estate car/sportback in the rear, which some might find controversial, but it’s undeniably bold and eye-catching. The design is daring and edgy, with vertical headlights framed by a textured front grille that adds an aggressive touch. Chrome accents, typically associated with luxury vehicles, contribute to a feeling of sophistication and elegance. However, we suggest toning down the chrome on other areas for a more matte finish.

Step inside the CELESTIQ and you’ll find it truly remarkable, setting it apart from ordinary luxury vehicles. This custom-made masterpiece is not just for admiring, but for imagining and creating something unique to you. Our model showcased a vibrant blue all-leather interior, contrasted with accents of orange reminiscent of the New York Mets. Just like its European counterparts, each CELESTIQ is crafted under the supervision of the Cadillac Design Team and concierge, who will guide you through your personalized customization journey from start to finish. The team offers suggestions for materials beyond just leather, such as the dashboard, stitching, door panels, metal hardware, coat hooks, and overhead handles. During our visit, they assured us that every creation will be a one-of-a-kind masterpiece; they’ll inform customers should they replicate a build that has been previously made.

Among the standout features we adored in the interior was the ingenious sunroof, aptly named by Cadillac as their Fixed Smart Glass Roof with Suspended Particle Device Technology. What makes it special is its four-zoned division, allowing each passenger to adjust the level of sunlight streaming in from above according to their preference. Additionally, we could playfully create a checkerboard pattern with this feature, which was a delight for all media guests. Moreover, the automatic door opening and closing function, operated by buttons both inside and outside, ensures a touch of elegance since manual handle usage seems too pedestrian apparently.

Regarding the performance, the CELESTIQ delivers the luxurious EV experience you’d anticipate, and more. The electric power output amounts to 655 horsepower and 646 lb-ft of torque, as reported by GM. Given its substantial weight of over 6,600 lbs, the power seems ample. Interestingly, rear-wheel steering makes the vehicle feel more agile at high speeds and during tight turns, including U-turns and three-point turns. Despite its considerable length, visibility is relatively effortless, thanks to the advanced driver assistance technology built into the Cadillac platform. In summary, the CELESTIQ offers a driving experience that’s enjoyable, yet also provides the luxury of being chauffeured in.

The new Cadillac CELESTIQ is set to offer consumers a luxury option comparable to Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, Maybachs, and Maseratis – vehicles often associated with exclusive, top-tier automobiles. Prices for the CELESTIQ begin in the mid-$300,000 range, but may surpass the half-million dollar mark when custom options are added. Cadillac is currently accepting requests for CELESTIQ production.
