The long-awaited Harry Potter television series from HBO is now moving forward with production. Filming has commenced at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom, and fans have been given a sneak peek of the talented young actor chosen to portray Harry Potter himself.
It’s been disclosed that Dominic McLaughlin is now taking on the role once played by Harry Potter, and HBO recently unveiled a picture showing him donning his Hogwarts gown for the very first time.
In addition to this update, HBO has revealed several new cast members. As per the studio, Rory Wilmot is set to portray Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson will take on the role of Harry’s pampered cousin Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey has been chosen for the part of flying instructor Madam Hooch, and Anton Lesser will step into the shoes of Ollivander, the wand craftsman.
HBO intends to adapt J.K. Rowling’s books faithfully for the series. Each novel will become a separate season, allowing for a more detailed exploration of the story over time. The show begins with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, most of whose main characters have already been cast.
In this cast, some famous figures have been selected for significant roles. John Lithgow, a multiple Emmy award-winner, has been chosen to portray Albus Dumbledore. Janet McTeer is set to make an appearance as Professor McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu will assume the character of Severus Snape, while Nick Frost will bring Hagrid to life.
In this new adaptation of the wizarding world, the primary group of young sorcerers consists of Dominic McLaughlin portraying Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Additionally, characters such as Molly Weasley, Draco Malfoy, and Lucius Malfoy are also included in the cast. Katherine Parkinson is set to play Molly, Lox Pratt will portray Draco, while Johnny Flynn assumes the role of Lucius Malfoy. Furthermore, actors like Leo Earley, Alessia Leoni, Sienna Moosah, Bel Powley, Daniel Rigby, and Bertie Carvel will step into supporting roles.
In the initial Harry Potter novel, stage performer Luke Thallon is set to portray Professor Albus Dumbledore’s temporary replacement, Professor Quirrell who teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts. Meanwhile, Paul Whitehouse will bring to life Argus Filch, the grouchy custodian of Hogwarts.
In this production, Francesca Gardiner takes charge in a dual role, serving both as showrunner and executive producer. Mark Mylod handles directing multiple episodes and also joins the team as an executive producer. J.K. Rowling, along with Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts from Brontë Film and TV, contribute significantly behind the scenes as executive producers. David Heyman, known for his work in the initial movie series, returns once more to contribute to this project.
HBO has begun shooting the show, though they haven’t specified a release date yet. Excitingly, it’s an upcoming TV adaptation of the Harry Potter tale, as officially verified by HBO.
