Summary
- Seoul High Court rejects NewJeans’ appeal to terminate exclusive contracts with ADOR
- Court upholds injunction blocking members from solo entertainment activities without ADOR’s consent
- NewJeans cited broken trust and alleged mistreatment; court rules in ADOR’s favor for the third time
The court in Seoul, South Korea, has denied an appeal submitted by the five members of the group NewJeens to end their exclusive agreements with their current record label, as reported by ADOR.
In an official statement, ADOR said
We wholeheartedly thank the court for its verdict. We believe this judgment offers a chance for the group members to reclaim their status as NewJeens and resume their work. With their third debut anniversary fast approaching, our agency ADOR is dedicated to offering unwavering support for the artists’ continued growth and prosperity.
The court confirmed that the current contract stands, restricting participants from undertaking solo entertainment endeavors unless they receive approval from ADOR first. This is the third straight verdict supporting the record company, mirroring previous rulings in March and April of 2025.
In their plea, NewJeans asserted that their connection with former CEO Min Hee Jin, who led them during their debut, had become “totally severed” due to a shift in management. They also referenced accusations of mistreatment and harassment by ADOR staff, which were said to have been disregarded, as South Korean law does not recognize artists as workers entitled to labor protection laws. Additionally, they declared that if the injunction wasn’t revoked, they would suffer “irreversible damage,” such as an extended break that could significantly harm their careers.
The temporary court order still stands, meaning the group cannot start any individual projects unless they receive permission from ADOR first.
