Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have unveiled the spine-tingling official trailer for what appears to be Black Phone 2, hinting at the ominous reappearance of Ethan Hawke’s notorious character, The Grabber.
The movie commences with The Grabber’s ominous voice echoing, “You may have believed our tale had ended, but for you who understand that ‘dead’ is merely a word, vengeance… will be mine.” This statement makes it clear that despite his supposed death in the initial film, The Grabber returns, seemingly resurrected and thirsty for vengeful retribution. The scenes hint towards a supernatural twist in the sequel, implying that The Grabber might be haunting Finney Blake (Mason Thames) from some mysterious realm. Ethan Hawke reappears as The Grabber, while Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw continue their roles as Finney Blake and his supernaturally-endowed sister, Gwen respectively. Jeremy Davies plays Finney’s father, and Miguel Mora portrays Robin. Joining the cast for this installment are Demián Bichir, Anna Lore, and Arianna Rivas.
Under the guidance of director Scott Derrickson (who jointly penned the script with C. Robert Cargill), the upcoming film titled “Black Phone 2” broadens the realm initially set up in the successful 2021 release. According to Derrickson, the sequel is positioned as a high school coming-of-age story, much like its predecessor was a middle school coming-of-age tale, suggesting that Finney’s character experiences a new phase and fresh set of trials.
The sequel to “The Black Phone” is set to terrorize cinemas on October 17, 2025, making it a perfect horror flick for Halloween. Be ready to pick up, as The Grabber still has unfinished business.
