It’s been quite some time now – around ten years, to be exact – since we last watched a new episode of Bob’s Burgers. More specifically, our last fresh episode aired in 2024, on the last day of December. Since then, it seems like the Belchers have disappeared from our screens.
Actually, they weren’t kicked off permanently; Fox chose to take a break with them for a while to concentrate on other programs instead. Interestingly, we’ll still have Bob’s Burgers every Sunday as usual, but starting from May 29th, the Belcher family will be appearing on Thursdays instead.
Not only did we get some thrilling updates, but we learned that “Bob’s Burgers” has been granted an additional four seasons on Fox! Given that the show will continue to air throughout the summer, it seems we won’t experience a break as prolonged as this one until 2026. However, this is more wishful thinking than fact.
Given the extended gap between episodes, we’ll discuss the events of “Mr. Fischoeder’s Opus” and whether it lived up to the anticipation. Here’s hoping this episode meets our expectations and compensates for the absence of a new one for nearly five months.
Here’s what happened in “Mr. Fischoeder’s Opus.”
The story opens with the Belcher family busily attending to their restaurant, when suddenly Mr. Fischoeder appears, requesting they handle catering for an event at his residence. He aims to soften the blow of his planned changes and offers two months of free rent if their performance is exceptional. On the following evening, the children prove uncooperative, prompting Bob to dismiss them to the backyard for some fun and games.
As a cinephile, I found myself engrossed in the scene where Mr. Fischoeder was strutting his stuff, trying to win over everyone’s admiration. However, the arrival of Felix threw a wrench into his plans, prompting him to delegate Felix the task of babysitting the crowd, hoping the kids would keep Felix occupied. Meanwhile, Bob and Linda were attempting to assist Fischoeder with the concert master, suggesting he speed up the piece, but their well-intentioned advice only made matters more complicated.
In a bid to diffuse the tension, Fischoeder decided to ply everyone with alcohol and make a toast. Unfortunately for him, the concert master took advantage of the situation, delivering a stinging rebuke that left Fischoeder embarrassed, ultimately leading him to call it quits on the performance.
Eugenia, Fischoeder’s housekeeper, instructs Bob to locate Fischoeder at the Hedge House to settle things amicably. Upon arrival, Bob learns why Fischoeder holds his beliefs, and in compliance with the concert master’s instructions, he decides to oblige. A week later, we see the Belchers attending a performance, and prior to the show, Bob pays a visit to Mr. Fischoeder to request a quicker tempo. In the end, Fischoeder agrees to speed up the tempo, which impresses the orchestra, ultimately winning them over.
Was “Mr. Fischoeder’s Opus” worth waiting for?

Clearly, last night’s episode of Bob’s Burgers was chock-full of excitement – something not always present in every show. Given the extended break the series has taken, I must say that “Mr. Fischoeder’s Opus” lived up to the anticipation. Though it might not appeal to everyone’s taste, I can confidently say that it’s an episode I’ll rewatch when going through season 15 again.
In summary, while I enjoyed most of the episode, one thing that didn’t quite resonate with me was the scene where Felix and the children watched each other. It seemed rather superfluous. However, I suspect the writers included this to provide a change of pace during the party and give the kids something to engage in. In contrast, the music and its subsequent performance at the end of the episode were truly captivating. The way it was presented faster after Fischoeder’s build-up made it even more impactful.
Regardless of varying responses from fans, it’s delightful to see “Bob’s Burgers” return. Although the Belcher family is taking a Memorial Day hiatus next week, we’ll get a fresh episode on May 29th instead. It’s truly exciting to announce that!
Bob’s Burgers will return with a new episode on May 29th at 8/7c.
