The MING team’s 37.02 Ghost was not initially intended to excel in lightweight construction or water resistance, but surprisingly, it performed exceptionally well in both aspects. Unlike earlier models such as the LW.01 and the 37.09 Bluefin that emphasized those features, the Ghost managed to strike a remarkable balance between them. Weighing only 35 grams, it surpassed its water resistance target by a significant margin, reaching a depth of 260 meters – more than double its original goal.
The design of this watch is influenced by architectural details, aiming to capture the ethereal effect of light dancing on structured metal textures. Rather than using the frequently chosen Grade 5 alloy, the craftsmen chose Grade 2 titanium for a unique look. Despite the material’s complex machining requirements, the final product showcases a warmth and depth that is not found in watches made from its space-engineered counterpart.
Almost all parts of the Ghost, such as its case, dial, and buckle, are crafted from Grade 2 titanium, resulting in a distinctive brushed surface instead of a polished one. The dial showcases both circular and radial brushing patterns, increasing its brightness without relying on sapphire components. This intricate workmanship results in an elegant interplay of light and shadow, all while maintaining MING’s iconic inverted design aesthetic.
The Ghost goes beyond just looking good; it combines sophisticated engineering with everyday practicality. With a case diameter of 38mm and a height of only 11mm, it features a narrow bezel and fits comfortably on wrists of different sizes. Its power source is the anthracite Sellita SW300, which boasts custom skeletonized bridges and plates for added durability and accuracy. This mechanism allows for approximately 50 hours of uninterrupted operation.
In the dimness, Super-LumiNova X1 boosts visibility, and a fine goat leather strap with a titanium folding clasp rounds off the aesthetics. Only 250 of these 37.02 Ghost models are produced, and they can be purchased for 3,500 CHF (around $4,331 USD) via MING’s official website and authorized dealers.
