Vans Sets Sail With the Doobie Skate Old Skool Net

Veteran French athlete (and fisherman) Victor “Doobie” Pellegrin has creatively reinvented the classic Vans Old Skool shoe, featuring a trove of intriguing, mythological design elements.

Known as the Doobie Skate Old Skool Net, this design features an exclusive mesh pocket within the tongue to safely store your belongings, a waterproof suede upper for durability, robust laces that won’t wear out easily, and 10-ounce canvas side panels. To top it off, renowned illustrator Todd Francis has customized the footbed specifically for this shoe model.

The new sneaker is introduced with a campaign video set in a gloomy Cornish fishing village, called “The Tale of Doobie.” This film was directed by Jack Lammas and Ed Hubert, and the visuals depict Doobie catching the shoes in his net, earning him the nickname “The World’s Best Fisherman.” Interestingly, Harry Lintell, Helena Long, Notis Aggelis, Max Pack, Merryn Garner, and Michael Boardman make brief appearances in this short video.

The story goes of Doobie, a former skateboarder hailing from a quaint French hamlet, who has ascended to rule the vast oceans. The brand penned this in the YouTube description. However, this isn’t an ordinary shoe; it’s the legendary Doobie Skate Old Skool Net – a fresh interpretation of the time-honored skate essential.

On April 24, you’ll be able to purchase the Doobie Skate Old Skool Net both online and at selected European skate stores. The cost for this item hasn’t been disclosed just yet. Have a peek at the design shown in the gallery above.
