The Korean fashion label, JiyongKim, headquartered in Seoul, is debuting its inaugural flagship store. Nestled in the tranquil lane of Hannam-dong, a vibrant district within South Korea’s capital city, this new store lies right at the core of the urban hive.
Originally built as a Korean row house, this building has seen multiple incarnations before becoming JiyongKim’s store. It served as a home, a shop, and an office in its past. Now, it serves as a platform for JiyongKim to display his distinctive clothing line. The history of the building is evident, honoring its former lives and tales, much like JiyongKim’s philosophy.
The garments produced by JiyongKim bear faint signs of time and light, allowing the storytelling that takes place when fabric is molded by nature’s movements to create one-of-a-kind, sun-bleached pieces.
The building’s facade boasts a light beige hue, accentuated by natural wood and muted silver tones in metal. Its geometric structure is given a softer feel through subtle textures and finishes. The second level reveals a sun-scorched canvas hanging close to the ceiling, reflecting JiyongKim’s craftsmanship. This canvas can be seen from the street and is strategically placed near the upper front window to catch the daylight that enters the building. A skylight allows light and shadow to subtly shift throughout the day, altering the ambiance. This evolving environment mirrors the Sun-Bleach technique where fabric changes over time due to sunlight exposure. Unlike other stores, JiyongKim’s flagship store is not static; instead, it offers a dynamic experience that encourages brand enthusiasts to appreciate the store and garments in new ways with every visit.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m super excited to share that I’ll be visiting the JiyongKim flagship store on April 20th! The store is truly magical, especially in the early evening before 6 p.m., when it’s bathed in natural light, transforming the space into a mesmerizing gaming haven.
