Renowned actor Val Kilmer has died at 65 years old, as confirmed by the New York Times.
Mercedes Kilmer, his daughter, revealed that the reason for his demise was pneumonia. She also mentioned that he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but managed to overcome it afterwards.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Kilmer is recognized for iconic roles such as Lt. Tom “Iceman” Kazansky from Top Gun, Batman in Batman Forever, the character of Jim Morrison in the biopic The Doors, and the voice of Moses in the animated musical film The Prince of Egypt. He made a brief return to his famous role in the 2021 movie Top Gun: Maverick.
2020 saw this actor disclose that he had been cancer-free for a span of four years, yet he faced challenges in dealing with therapies linked to his throat cancer. Notably, he had been a devout Christian Scientist all his life, and prior to this, he had rejected any connection to the diagnosis.
I’m fortunate to be the parent of two wonderful kids, Jack and Mercedes, whom I had with my former partner, Joanne Whalley. They continue to carry on my legacy in their unique ways.
