Filipino-American artist Louis De Guzman has opened his first solo exhibition, In The Rearview in Seoul, South Korea — marking a pivotal moment in his career. Hosted at Soft Corner Gallery in the vibrant Gangnam district, the exhibition showcases a diverse body of artworks, ranging from acrylic-on-canvas paintings to fiberglass sculptures and paper-based creations.
In The Rearview expands upon De Guzman’s ongoing Along The Way universe, featuring his original character Disruptie. For this show, the artist drew inspiration from his personal upbringing and life experiences, inviting viewers to reflect and rediscover the often-overlooked wonders in life through his artworks. Each piece carries elements of storytelling, serving as a tribute to his cultural heritage and creative evolution.
De Guzman’s installation revolves around the theme of transformation and self-discovery. In his artist statement, he describes the exhibition as an exploration of moving away from forces that hinder growth and forging a unique path within one’s own created universe. This introspective approach allows audiences to connect deeply with the art, finding their own meaning and resonance within the works.
Louis De Guzman’s In The Rearview is currently on view at Soft Corner Art Gallery and will remain on view until April 11, 2025.
