Recently, changes in fashion have stopped seeming like an exciting game of musical chairs and more like a continuously spinning carousel. Excitingly, it has been announced that Demna has resigned from his role as Balenciaga’s creative director and moved within Kering’s buildings to take up the same position at Gucci.
As a gamer,
“Demna has shown an incredible knack for tapping into what’s happening now, combined with a wealth of creative ideas, making him one of the most impactful and skilled creators of his time,” said Francesca Bellettini, Kering’s Deputy CEO for Brand Development, in a statement. “His taking on the role as Artistic Director is just what we need to revitalize Gucci’s creative spirit. I can hardly wait to see the amazing things Demna and Stefano will do together as they guide Gucci into a new chapter of triumph.
For Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2025 line, the in-house design team took charge again, following the unexpected exits of creative directors Alessandro Michele and Sabato de Sarno. Conversely, Balenciaga presented a collection characterized by minimalist corporate-gothic style during Paris Fashion Week, signifying nearly a decade in leadership for their designer.
Previously, Demna has ventured into Gucci’s domain before. People may recall the 2021 partnership between Balenciaga and Gucci known as “The Hacker Project”. This collaboration sparked a brief resurgence of both brands’ love for logos.
Despite persistent speculation, it wasn’t widely expected that Demna would replace de Sarno before the announcement was made earlier today, following Donatella Versace’s unexpected resignation. At this point, no formal announcements have been made about who will take over at Balenciaga. Keep checking TopMob for further developments.
