It appears that after much speculation, it’s being reported that National Treasure 3 might finally become a reality. This news comes from trusted source Daniel Richtman (Daniel RPK), who claims that the long-anticipated follow-up is currently being developed at Disney.
This represents the largest overhaul in the series since the release of “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” back in 2007. Patient fans have longed for a third installment for almost two decades, but it seems that Disney has finally decided to make a move, as suggested by recent developments.
What does the rumor say?
The rumor about Daniel RPK’s assertion that National Treasure 3 is being developed doesn’t contain much detail, but if it’s true that he’s saying this at Disney, then it’s a significant claim, so there’s a good chance it might be accurate.

Will Nicolas Cage Return?
Will Nicolas Cage reprise his role as treasure hunter Benjamin Gates? This is something that’s been up in the air, given Cage’s past hesitation. Last year, he explicitly stated that a third movie wasn’t on the cards, hinting that Disney was more interested in the Edge of History TV series over it.
However, Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer, along with director Jon Turteltaub, have expressed optimism. Earlier, they mentioned that they were developing a script and aimed to reunite Nicolas Cage and the original cast for another installment.
According to Bruckheimer’s previous statements, when the script is completed, it will be forwarded to Cage to gauge his interest. At this point, we haven’t received any updates regarding Cage’s participation.
Last year, Bruckheimer expressed his hope that there might be a third installment of the “National Treasure” series. He mentioned that they’ve been developing it for quite some time and currently have an exceptionally talented writer working on it. If they can produce a script promptly, they plan to present it to Nic Cage. If he finds it appealing, they will move forward with production. In essence, they are eager to make another one if possible.
Franchise History & What’s Next
In the year 2022, Disney attempted to resurrect the franchise through a Disney+ series titled “National Treasure: Edge of History“, but unfortunately it ran for just one season. Screenwriter Ted Elliott has confirmed that the series remains part of the canon and suggested that future films might introduce alterations and further develop the character of Riley.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m eagerly awaiting the news about the long-anticipated third installment of “National Treasure,” which is reportedly in active development now. The ball is in Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer’s court to craft an engaging script, while we cross our fingers that Nicolas Cage will accept the call to reprise his iconic role. Let’s hope this sequel lives up to the excitement it’s generating!
