John Lithgow To Play Dumbeldore in HBO’s New ‘Harry Potter’ Series

In a recent conversation with ScreenRant, actor John Lithgow has officially announced that he will take on the iconic character of Albus Dumbledore in HBO’s upcoming adaptation of the Harry Potter series. It was previously hinted by Variety this month that Lithgow was interested in portraying this role.

John Lithgow expressed his delight and apprehension about portraying Dumbledore, saying, “I was completely taken aback by this offer. It came unexpectedly during the Sundance Film Festival, and it’s a significant choice given that it could shape the final phase of my acting career. However, I’m thrilled about it.” He further explained his enthusiasm and the circumstances leading to his acceptance, “With so many remarkable individuals revisiting the world of Harry Potter, making this decision has been challenging. By the time we wrap up, I would be around 87 years old, but I’ve agreed to take on the role.” Lithgow may potentially dedicate the next seven years of his life, starting at age 79, to embodying Dumbledore.

The strategy for the upcoming TV adaptation involves creating a separate series for each book in the collection. At this point, the additional characters who will appear in the movies remain unconfirmed.
