Mathias Kiss’ New Tableware Collection for Christofle Experiments With “Perspectives”

Modern-day French artist Mathias Kiss unveiled a unique set of items, designed specifically for Christofle – a well-known French brand renowned for its high-quality silverware and tableware. Dubbed “Perspectives,” this collection consists of six versatile pieces that can either be mixed and matched or used individually.

By utilizing an array of classic designs, Kiss reimagined and rearranged architectural details to fashion sculptural candleholders, vases, and candelabras. His work showcases a striking blend of the surreal and meticulously organized style, where he ingeniously repurposes wall moldings into sculptural candleholders and candelabras with intricate projections and hollow areas.

Working together with Mathias Kiss opened up opportunities for Christofle to delve into fresh materials and production methods. The unique blend of technology and aesthetics in the “Perspectives” collection pushed the boundaries of Parisian silversmithing, inspiring the research and development team to experiment with aluminum due to its lightweight nature and exceptional mechanical strength. This innovative material choice proved fitting for the intricate designs of the candleholders and candelabras, perfectly complemented by Christofle’s signature, high-quality finish that is both oxidation and heat-resistant.

The intricately designed glass vase, adorned with 12 facets of different sizes and thicknesses, stands out in the collection. Made by joining these facets together using UV-cured glue, it’s then hand-polished before undergoing a delicate abrasion treatment to achieve a gentle, radiant shine. The base, made from removable aluminum, allows for easy replacement of water.

Mathias Kiss’ “Perspectives” Collection offers pieces priced between $275 and $9,500 USD, which can be purchased via Christofle for shopping convenience.
