It’s well-known that Timothée Chalamet has a singing voice similar to Bob Dylan’s, as demonstrated in the movie “A Complete Unknown“. Additionally, we’ve caught glimpses of his singing talent during other appearances. Thus, it wasn’t all that surprising when the movie star was invited to be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, given his multitalented nature.
It appears that the fellow has an incredible skill set and excels in whatever he takes on. It’s no surprise, given that he is Timothée Chalamet. He could even step onto ESPN’s College Gameday and discuss college football as if he were a star athlete himself.
Last week’s SNL episode, we understood that Timothée Chalamet wouldn’t be singing any original songs. Instead, he was to perform tunes by Bob Dylan. This decision was partly due to awards season being in full swing (he’s recently been nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Dylan in the biopic), as it would give voters further evidence that Chalamet possesses exceptional singing abilities, particularly in imitating Dylan.
Timothée Chalamet embodies Bob Dylan on Saturday Night Live but fans might want more
In two distinct parts during his SNL appearance, he sang three songs. For the first segment, Adam Sandler introduced Timothée Chalamet who serenaded us with “Outlaw Blues,” which morphed into “Three Angels.” The band, featuring James Blake on keyboards, was both energetic (in terms of sound and spirit), and Chalamet’s performance was remarkable.
In the second part of his performance, he sang “Tomorrow is a Long Time,” which had a softer feel as the actor strummed an acoustic guitar, and Blake returned to play the keyboard alongside him.
Could it be that people are wondering if Chalamet is just pretending to play music or if he could potentially dabble in part-time music? He’s quite capable on the guitar, and he has a decent vocal range. Imitating Dylan’s sound is acceptable, but Dylan’s true talent didn’t lie in his voice. Other artists have excelled in that area. Dylan was more about singing poetry, giving his words an extra layer of emotion through his voice.
It’s possible that Chalamet prefers performing Dylan tunes and that may be the boundary to his musical ambitions. His fans might desire more from him, yet he has given hints of his impressive musical skills. Given that we’re discussing Timothée Chalamet, it’s reasonable to expect that if he ventures into music, he will undoubtedly excel.
