Since the Who performed at the Super Bowl halftime in 2010, there hasn’t been a legitimate rock band gracing the stage during the intermission of the NFL’s biggest game. While acts like Coldplay and Maroon 5 have taken the spotlight since then, they are more pop-oriented rather than rock. However, NFL Hall of Famer and current coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football team Deion Sanders has an idea for next year’s Super Bowl performer, and his suggestion might just be spot on.
During the past three Super Bowl intermissions, the NFL and Apple Music have consistently chosen R&B or hip-hop artists to perform. These artists have delivered impressive shows. Usher had a slightly rocky start at Super Bowl LVIII, but his performance improved when Alicia Keys and H.ER. joined him. Notably, hip-hop acts like Eminem and Dr. Dre have put on spectacular shows.
Sanders is a huge admirer of rapper Lil Wayne. It’s possible that Sanders wasn’t impressed with Usher’s performance during the show, as at the same time Usher was trying to keep us entertained, Coach Prime took to Twitter expressing his preference for who should perform at Super Bowl LIX (or 59, for those unfamiliar with Roman numerals). Another possibility is that Sanders found Lil Jon and Ludacris’s work with Usher so energizing that he yearned even more to see Lil Wayne take the stage.
Deion Sanders wants to see Lil Wayne during halftime of Super Bowl LIX
It remains uncertain if the NFL will heed Deion Sanders’ suggestions, but he certainly knows how to captivate an audience. Wherever he’s been on the field or in the coaching box, his presence has generated more public curiosity than perhaps his teams might have otherwise, as Sanders is skilled at marketing himself. Alternatively, it could be that Sanders holds the cosmic power of bringing Lil Wayne onto the scene next year.
Dear NFL, I am confident that Lil Wayne will participate in the Super Bowl 2025 in New Orleans. I’m looking forward to it and sending my appreciation ahead of time. Lots of love, CoachPrime.

Even though I have my doubts about Lil Wayne performing the halftime show solo, it seems questionable if he would outshine a collaboration with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar, given their collective musical prowess. However, I must emphasize that this is not a reflection of Lil Wayne’s talent but rather a comparison to an exceptional group. Nonetheless, my opinion holds little weight compared to that of the decision-maker in question, Sanders.
