Recently, the Television Academy created ripples in the entertainment sector by implementing some unexpected adjustments to certain rules. Among these modifications is a fresh requirement regarding eligibility for potential Guest Performers nominees.
According to the updated guidelines for the 2025 Emmys, if an actor has been nominated or won previously in either the Lead or Supporting Actor/Actress categories, they will not be allowed to submit themselves in the Guest Performer category for portraying the same character in the same show in future Emmy seasons.
According to the Television Academy, the performer would still be eligible to compete in either the leading or supporting categories.
In other words, if an actor has previously contended or triumphed in the Lead or Supporting categories for a specific show, they are not allowed to resubmit themselves for consideration as a Guest Star for the same character within that same series.
An interesting alteration introduced by these awards allows a director or directing team to submit entries for multiple accomplishments within each category, provided these achievements stem from distinct projects.
Previously, directors could only submit one entry in each category for consideration. Now, under the revised rules, directors or directing teams can enter an episode from any show they’ve worked on within their respective categories.
It’s worth noting a shift in the timing for the Daytime Emmys. Instead of its usual June schedule, the event will now take place in October from this year onward, according to TV Line.
Instead, the News & Documentary Emmys will now take place in June, a change from their usual fall schedule.
