HoYoverse readies itself for HSR x Fate collab with “unhinged” documentary

The much-anticipated partnership between Honkai: Star Rail and Fate UBW officially begins on July 11, 2025. This exciting team-up introduces a comprehensive story event to the space RPG genre with turn-based gameplay. Players will get the opportunity to play as characters Saber and Archer during this period. Initially accessible via a limited-time banner spanning multiple updates, players can secure one free copy of Archer once the collaboration goes live.

To make the wait more bearable, HoYoverse has shared a brief mockumentary on YouTube about their teamwork during the collaboration. The storyline echoes Fate’s main theme, the Holy Grail War, where seven staff members engage in a friendly competition to discover the most inspiring ideas for this significant joint project.

As a dedicated gamer diving into another adventure, things quickly escalate, just like in an intense role-playing game. The staff here seem to be tripping on some sort of real-life “magic mushrooms,” leading to chaos and even arrests for suspicious activities aimed at eliminating fellow team members. Quite the unexpected twist!

The team additionally demonstrated their unwavering enthusiasm for Fate by invoking one of its most renowned memes ever, a well-known bootleg figurine often called Sader. As HSR lead designer Chengnan An mentioned in an earlier interview with DBLTAP, the team is composed of fans of the IP.

In the video, you’ll find Kinoko Nasu, the mastermind behind Fate, making an appearance. He labels it as “an utterly eccentric documentary.

Throughout the entire journey, things went terribly awry, but surprisingly, the end result miraculously aligned with reality. Frankly, I’m at a loss for words about that. Granted, the movie did overstate some aspects. However, the actual production was just as challenging, if not more so. To the team who persevered through the chaos, my deepest admiration and approval are yours. And may every participant out there find enjoyment in this crossover, as Nasu concluded.
