As a longtime fan who’s witnessed the evolution of television, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as CBS bids adieu to the Grammy Awards after 54 years. The thought of a Taylor Swift performance or an acceptance speech sans CBS feels almost unimaginable, yet here we are.
For 54 years, the Grammy Awards had been broadcasted by CBS. However, starting from 2027, these prestigious awards will find a new home on other networks or streaming platforms. No more joyful grins from CBS executives when Taylor Swift wins an award and announces a new album release. Given that this shift occurred earlier this year, it’s possible they are hoping for another event like that before the changeover in 2027.
CBS has been hosting the Grammys since 1973, consistently delivering impressive award ceremonies. This year saw a surge in viewership compared to 2023, possibly due to Taylor Swift’s popularity and numerous nominations. However, they might not put as much effort into the next two events, given their impending end.
In simpler terms, CBS was outshone in broadcasting awards by an expanding media giant – The Walt Disney Company. This conglomerate owns ABC, ESPN, Hulu, and Disney+, among other businesses. However, in 2027, the company plans to surpass itself even further.
Taylor Swift could be making major announcements at the Grammy Awards on a new network soon
ABC isn’t just broadcasting the Grammys, they’re also set to air the Oscars and Super Bowl LXI. These three events consistently top television viewership charts. Essentially, Disney is already wealthy, but in 2027, they’ll be striking it rich with an abundance of premium programming. Picture all the ad revenue Disney stands to earn!
As a dedicated fan, I’m eagerly waiting to find out if all the Super Bowl events will stream live on Hulu or Disney+. It seems logical for Disney to expand their programming to include these streaming services, boosting their overall productivity. Could it be that ABC and ESPN broadcast the Super Bowl in 2027? There’s also a chance we might see another Manningcast as part of the event too!
Regardless of the approach, it appears that CBS may end up suffering a significant loss in terms of ratings with the Grammys, but audiences are ultimately the ones who stand to benefit as there will likely be multiple options available for viewing or streaming events such as the Grammys, Oscars, and Super Bowl.
