As a die-hard fan who’s seen more ‘Alien’ films than I care to admit (and survived to tell the tale), I must say that Marvel Comics has truly outdone itself with ‘Alien: Romulus #1’. The comic takes the suspense and terror of the movie and amplifies it, delving deeper into the chaos and controversy that erupts when a xenomorph wreaks havoc on the Renaissance station.
In a recent development, Marvel Comics has unveiled ‘Alien: Romulus #1’, written by Zac Thompson and illustrated by Daniel Picciotto. The storyline continues immediately following the film ‘Alien: Romulus’, which was directed by Fede Álvarez in collaboration with Rodo Sayagues on the script.
The movie chronicles a band of young people hailing from Jackson’s Star, as they embark on a daring mission to flee their dismal mining settlement by hijacking a cryostasis pod from the Weyland-Yutani space station known as Renaissance.
Initially hazardous, their strategy unwittingly propels them towards a hidden xenomorph infestation that had been growing undetected within the station’s Romulus and Remus areas.
In the latest comic, we delve into the turmoil sparked when the Xenomorph known as XX121 is retrieved by Weyland-Yutani from the Nostromo spacecraft.
The alien’s appearance at Renaissance Station causes debate among the team. Whereas Science Officer Rook views this as a promising chance to explore the xenomorph’s genetic engineering possibilities, Security Officers Hyla and Adrian are all too aware of the risks that come with dealing with such elusive life forms.
The dread they harbored becomes a reality as their effort to get rid of XX121 accidentally reawakens the monster, leading to a violent assault and unintentionally liberating the facehugger clones.
Tensions rise as partnerships are forged out of necessity. Hyla and Rook combine their efforts in a last-ditch attempt to eradicate the xenomorphs, facehuggers, and contaminated crew members from the space station.
Ultimately, their tireless work leads to a poignant and intense confrontation, where tough decisions are made and people pay the price, as the thirst for scientific advancement outweighs concern for human welfare.
