The earnings from “Jurassic World: Rebirth” surpassed expectations, boasting robust domestic and foreign revenues. Remarkably, it became the franchise’s smallest opening yet.
What are the Jurassic World: Rebirth box office numbers?
It’s 3-day domestic came in at $82.1 million, better than the $80M estimates.
Similarly, the anticipated revenue for the 5-day holiday weekend was between $120 million and $130 million, but it actually surpassed these expectations, generating an impressive $147.3 million in earnings instead.
Foreign markets brought in another $171M, for a current worldwide gross of over $318.3M.
No dinosaur fatigue but still franchise low
A substantial audience attendance indicates that the interest in dinosaurs remains undiminished. However, it’s worth noting that despite this, “Jurassic World: Rebirth” has recorded the lowest earnings for the franchise so far. Will it manage to surpass a billion dollars? Will it sustain its performance? The screenings for “Superman” begin either on Monday or Tuesday. After two weeks, we’ll also have Marvel’s “Fantastic Four”.
In my opinion, much like its predecessor, it seems that Universal opted to forego crafting a quality film, perhaps assuming their audience would eagerly devour whatever they served up. Frankly, I believe this approach reveals a lack of regard for the fans and an overestimation of our collective intelligence. This is my perspective on “Jurassic World: Rebirth”.
Lot lower than previous JW films
Even though enthusiastic fans are rejoicing, the movie “Jurassic World: Rebirth” must rake in approximately $675 million to achieve profitability, considering it’s rumored production budget of around $225 million, not including marketing costs, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Comparing the Jurassic World: Rebirth box office to the previous JW movies also shows a huge drop:
- Jurassic World (2015) opened to over $208 million in 3 DAYS, which in today’s dollars is over $283 million.
- Jurassic World opened to over $258 million in 5 DAYS, which in today’s dollars is over $350 million.
- Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) opened to $148 million over 3 DAYS, which in today’s dollars is over $189M.
- Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opened to over $181 million over 5 DAYS, which in today’s dollars is over $245M.
- Jurassic World: Dominion (2022) opened to over $145M in 3 DAYS.
- Jurassic World: Dominion opened to over $172M in 5 DAYS.
The movies didn’t enjoy the advantage of a five-day extended weekend, since their figures encompassed their initial Monday and Tuesday as well.
In its second week, Rebirth will need strong legs to match or surpass Superman at the box office. This weekend’s performance against Superman will be a crucial test. Interestingly, Superman has the added advantage of IMAX screenings, which were not offered to Rebirth in its second week, as the F1 film retained them.
