Sometimes it’s a simple mistake, but other times it’s something much more serious, leading to real jail time. I’ve put together a look at some well-known performers who’ve actually spent time behind bars, despite their fame.
Robert Downey Jr.

This well-known actor is a prime example of someone who successfully rebuilt their life after being in prison. In the late 1990s, the star of ‘Iron Man’ dealt with serious legal problems related to drugs and weapons. He spent almost a year in a California prison focused on substance abuse treatment. That experience proved to be a turning point, ultimately leading to his huge success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Mark Wahlberg

Before becoming a famous actor in movies like ‘The Departed’ and ‘Ted’, Mark Wahlberg grew up with a difficult youth in Boston. As a teenager, he was arrested for assault and originally faced an attempted murder charge. He eventually pleaded guilty to assault and spent 45 days in jail as part of a two-year sentence. Wahlberg has often discussed his troubled past and how he changed his life for the better.
Wesley Snipes

It’s just so incredibly sad. I remember seeing this young actor in ‘Riverdale’ and even ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ – he seemed like a normal kid. But then I heard about the tragedy… he shot his mother back in 2020. He ended up pleading guilty to second-degree murder, and the judge gave him a life sentence – he won’t be eligible for parole for at least 14 years. From what I understand, his lawyers tried to explain that he was really struggling with serious mental health problems at the time, which is just heartbreaking.
Emile Hirsch

Emile Hirsch, known for his role in ‘Into the Wild,’ was sentenced to 15 days in jail after assaulting a female film executive at a nightclub during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City. He admitted to the misdemeanor assault, served his time at the Summit County Jail, and paid a fine.
