There’s a Good Chance We Will See Mahershala Ali in the MCU Again, But Not as Blade

As a long-time Marvel fan who’s seen my fair share of comic book adaptations, I must say that the prospect of Mahershala Ali reprising his role as Cottonmouth in the MCU, particularly alongside the Defenders, is nothing short of intriguing! While I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the highly anticipated Blade movie, I can’t help but wonder if this rumor about a potential Defenders ensemble could be Marvel’s secret sauce to bring Ali back into their cinematic universe.

It’s common knowledge that “Blade” is an eagerly awaited Marvel Studios production, set to introduce the popular antihero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The title character will be portrayed by Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali, while Mia Goth has been cast as Lilith. This project promises to thrill fans of the legendary vampire slayer, as many believe.

It appears that Ali is deeply committed to this film, pouring considerable effort and resources into its production. However, as you’re aware, the project has found itself in an unusual state, leading some critics to label it as “stuck in developmental limbo.

Though Mahershala Ali may not reprise his role as Blade in the MCU after Eternals, whispers suggest there’s a strong possibility he might return to the universe, but potentially as a distinct character instead.

It’s likely you’re aware that Mahershala Ali portrayed Blade, but not the only Marvel character he has brought to life. The other role is less well-known compared to Marvel’s iconic vampire hunter. This character wasn’t a part of the MCU, instead belonging to the now-defunct Marvel Television label. So, who might this be? By now, you may recall that he portrayed Cornell Bertram Stokes, also known as Cottonmouth, a significant adversary of Luke Cage and the Defenders.

Although this article primarily focuses on the Defenders rather than Luke Cage, it mentions a speculation by Cosmic Circus that Marvel may be planning a reunion of the Defenders for a joint appearance in the MCU now that Daredevil has been confirmed to carry on.

Jace: Hey Alex, I hope you’re having a good start to the month! With what we know of Daredevil: Born Again so far, are there any plans of doing Marvel Knights?

Alex: Discussing Marvel Knights is premature at the moment, but I can confirm that they’re developing a team-based storyline set in the streets. It’s similar to The Defenders, but with a unique twist.

Is it possible for Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Krysten Ritter to reprise their characters of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones respectively within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) once more? If they do, could you inform me in what specific project or series will this take place?

Alex: I’ll chime in based on rumors I’ve picked up: Indeed, Marvel Studios is planning for a return of the trio, but their parts may be different. The biggest alteration seems to be for Danny Rand.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t definitive, but it does offer numerous options. Given Cottonmouth’s significant role as a Defenders antagonist, this could potentially bring Mahershala Ali into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although not necessarily in the role fans might expect. However, this is merely an idea or speculation, and we’ll have to keep an eye on how the Defenders and Ali’s _Blade_ film unfold in the MCU.
