Marvel Studios’ Ironheart Series Gets New Update At Disney D23 Expo; All We Know So Far

As a longtime Marvel enthusiast with a heart for characters that embody innovation, resilience, and a touch of rebellion, I am thrilled about the upcoming Ironheart series on Disney+. Having grown up reading Riri Williams’ stories in comic books, it is nothing short of exhilarating to see this brilliant young character come to life on screen.

At the D23 Expo held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Marvel Studios revealed a sneak peek of the eagerly awaited Disney+ series, Ironheart. On stage for the event were executive producer Ryan Coogler, along with cast members Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos, as well as Marvel head Kevin Feige.

According to Variety, I (as Riri Williams, portrayed by Dominique Thorne) am the focus of the Ironheart series, which picks up my story post-MCU following my debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever alongside Letitia Wright’s Shuri and Danai Gurira’s Okoye in 2022. The recently released footage provides a peek into my life after Wakanda, showcasing my journey to rekindle my creative spirit.

Upon returning to MIT, Riri increasingly misses classes to pour herself into her groundbreaking project, leveraging the institution’s resources extensively. She boasts about creating something that will undeniably capture attention. However, her intense dedication to work results in her expulsion from MIT, leaving her in need of less-than-reputable financial means. This leads her to collaborate with Parker Robbins, a character known as The Hood (played by Anthony Ramos), who navigates the murky world of illicit activities.

The sneak peek showed Riri reminiscing about her time spent in Wakanda, where she said she felt creatively stuck after that period. Her passion for doing things out of the ordinary led her to Robbins, creating dissonance between their diverse worlds. Additionally, there were glimpses of action scenes, such as Riri sporting her new Ironheart suit.

The show titled Ironheart, written by Chinaka Hodge, consists of six episodes. Two directors, Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes, each take charge of three episodes. Dominique Thorne portrays the character Riri Williams, while Anthony Ramos plays The Hood. Additionally, Alden Ehrenreich, Lyric Ross, Manny Montana, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, Harper Anthony, and others are part of the cast. As per Deadline, there’s a rumor that Sacha Baron Cohen might join the cast as Mephisto, although this has not been verified yet.

The series has been completed and is set to air on Disney Plus in 2025; Marvel Studios has not specified an exact release date as of now.

Riri Williams, initially developed by Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato, has risen to become one of Marvel Universe’s most acclaimed characters today. From her comic book roots to her prominent role in Wakanda Forever and later the Ironheart series, Riri’s journey has sparked immense enthusiasm and eagerness among fans.
