How Did Lady Gaga Make Her Joker Co-Star Joaquin Phoenix ‘Feel Confident’ About His Singing? He Reveals

As a dedicated fan of both Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, I cannot help but be thrilled by their upcoming collaboration in “Joker: Folie À Deux.” Having followed Gaga’s music career since her early days and being captivated by Phoenix’s acting prowess, I am excited to see the dynamic between these two exceptional artists.

Pop sensation Lady Gaga is wholeheartedly supporting her fellow actor Joaquin Phoenix’s vocal skills for their upcoming movie Joker: Folie À Deux. Phoenix shared stories about their playful interactions and how impressed Gaga was when he poured his heart into a song for her.

Joaquin Phoenix’s singing talent

Phoenix spoke with The Empire during an interview as he prepared to reprise his character, the Joker (Arthur Fleck), in the highly anticipated sequel. He shared some memories from his past experience working with A Star Is Born’s singer, Lady Gaga. “I recall her spitting out coffee when I sang a few lines for her the first time,” he said. “That unexpected reaction made me feel good and gave me confidence.” Gaga had always supported him in following his instincts, reassuring him with words like, “Go with what you feel, it’s okay.”

1. Performing alongside a Grammy-winning legend can be quite nerve-wracking, but Phoenix shared that Gaga was gracious and supportive in this situation. He admitted that it could feel awkward for someone not accustomed to such performances, yet thrilling at the same time. Moreover, he mentioned that Gaga generally advises following one’s instincts.

Lady Gaga joins Joker as Harley Quinn

In the new chapter, Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga, enters the storyline. Meanwhile, the following installment delves into the story of Arthur Fleck, formerly the Joker, who is currently confined at Arkham Asylum, facing trial for his past transgressions. Struggling with his two personas, Arthur unexpectedly discovers both love and the hidden music within himself as revealed in the film’s official synopsis.

When Gaga assumed the position of Harley Quinn, Joker’s henchwoman, she shared with an interviewer her challenges in portraying this character. She noted that while her musician persona was well-known, Harley required being distinct from it to truly come alive. The tunes she sings in the movie represent the significant effort Gaga invested to avoid sounding like her usual performer.

Joker: Folie À Deux will hit the theatres on October 4, 2024.
