There’s renewed uncertainty about James Gunn’s plans for a Batman within the DC Universe, and reports suggest it might not happen for a very long time, possibly never.
According to scooper DanielRPK, The Brave and the Bold isn’t coming anytime soon.
He alleges James Gunn is prioritizing a quick production of Matt Reeves’ The Batman 3 because Gunn doesn’t want two different Batman universes existing simultaneously. He wants Reeves’ planned trilogy finished so DC Studios can begin developing its own future projects.
This fits with the current uncertainty surrounding how the Batman portrayed in the DC Universe will relate to the separate Batman world led by Robert Pattinson.
This confirms reports that James Gunn preferred Robert Pattinson to play Batman in the DC Universe, allowing him to collaborate with director Matt Reeves on the character’s development. However, that collaboration is now off the table.

The Brave and the Bold Reportedly Delayed for Years
Originally revealed as one of the first projects in James Gunn’s DC Universe, The Brave and the Bold will introduce the new versions of Batman and his son, Robin (Damian Wayne).
However, if DanielRPK’s information is accurate, fans shouldn’t expect it anytime soon.
It seems the main priority is now completing the story that started with The Batman and revolves around the character of Reeves.
I’ve heard James Gunn really wants to finish the first three DCU movies before starting a new Batman story. He’s worried about confusing fans and having too many different storylines going at once, and apparently, building a whole new Batman universe would take a long time – years, actually!

Gunn’s Future at DC Studios Tied to WBD Sale
However, beyond scheduling issues, there are bigger things in play.
Reports suggest that James Gunn may lose his position as head of DC Studios following the Warner Bros. Discovery sale.
That explains why Gunn is currently developing the Superman Family Saga projects.
So, it looks like DC’s only got two things cooking right now: the Man of Tomorrow project, which sounds cool, and… a Jimmy Olsen TV show? Honestly, I’m not sure anyone was really asking for that one, but hey, we’ll see!
Everything else, including the future of Wonder Woman, is currently on hold, waiting to see who ends up leading Warner Bros. Discovery.

Lanterns and the HBO Factor
The show Lanterns is still in development, but it appears to be structured as a limited series for HBO, with just eight episodes planned.
This adds to the belief that James Gunn’s plans for the future of DC movies might be on hold until the situation with the new ownership is settled.

Concerns Over DCU Batman Tone
We’ve heard there’s some worry within the company about how James Gunn plans to portray Batman within the new DC Universe.
Batman is still DC’s most valuable character. There’s concern that upcoming projects might give him a lighter, more comedic tone, similar to some of James Gunn’s earlier work. Many fans and those at DC believe Batman shouldn’t be turned into a joke.
Since The Brave and the Bold will introduce Damian Wayne, getting Batman’s portrayal right is crucial. A wrong move with the character could have significant repercussions throughout the DC Universe.

New WBD Owners Could Reset DC Again
We’ve heard that any new owner of DC is likely to want to take the company in a different direction. The CEO of Netflix recently admitted that James Gunn’s Superman movie didn’t perform as well as expected, proving they are paying close attention to Gunn and what’s happening with DC.
There’s a chance Zack Snyder’s vision for the DC Universe could come back, depending on who buys Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). If Paramount were to acquire WBD, James Gunn might lose his position, as Paramount’s leaders are thought to have different priorities and relationships than Gunn and his creative team.

The Future of Batman
Right now, the DCU Batman remains a question mark.
If The Brave and the Bold is still several years off, and Warner Bros. focuses on completing The Batman trilogy first, James Gunn’s broader plans for the DC Universe could be delayed, or might have already hit a standstill.
And if WBD changes hands, everything — including Gunn’s role — could shift overnight.
Right now, fans are wondering who will be in charge of DC Comics, and what future Batman – and the DC Universe as a whole – will have after these recent changes in ownership.
