Jesse Williams’ Tobert Won’t Return For ‘Only Murders In The Building’ Season 4; KNOW More

As a dedicated fan of Only Murders in the Building, I was disappointed but not entirely surprised by Jesse Williams‘ confirmation that his character Tobert won’t be returning for season 4. The news came as a blow after the intriguing cliffhanger ending in October 2023, which left many fans wondering if Tobert would reappear.

42-year-old Jesse Williams has made it clear that his character Tobert will not appear in season 4 of Only Murders in the Building. During an interview with PEOPLE at the premiere of his new docuseries Distilled on July 28, he confirmed this. In response to questions about a possible return for the show, he simply said: “No, I’m not part of that series anymore.”

Looking back on Tobert

1) In the third season, Tobert made his debut alongside Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd playing different roles. Within the play “Death Rattle,” written by Ben Glenroy (portrayed by Paul Rudd), Tobert – a cameraman – plays a significant role in Mabel’s investigation.

1. In no time at all, a deeper connection formed between Tobert and Mabel. However, later on, Tobert relocated to Los Angeles for a role in an independent film, with Mabel suggesting that she may pay him a visit sometime.

Returning and new cast members

In the upcoming fourth season, Gomez joins Steve Martin (Charles-Haden Savage) and Martin Short (Oliver Putnam), with Jesse Williams absent. Streep and Rudd return as well. The new episodes bring an adaptation of the renowned Only Murders podcast into a movie format, starring Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, and Zach Galifianakis.

1. More performers joining the Hulu cast include Melissa McCarthy and Molly Shannon, among others; previously, John Hoffman expressed a desire for Williams’ return. However, the prospect of collaborating with Gomez, as well as Martin or Short, continues to be one of his wonders regarding this project.

Reflecting on his experience

In an interview from last August, when asked about working alongside Martin and Short, Williams described it as a moment that felt surreal or almost too good to be true. He acknowledged these comedy veterans as significant icons who greatly influenced him in his comedic journey. Furthermore, he found collaborating with Gomez extremely enjoyable and delightful.

1. The fourth season of “Only Murders in the Building” debuts on August 27. If you haven’t seen the first three seasons yet, they’re currently streaming on Hulu, giving fans a chance to get up to speed.
