Jon Hamm recently discussed his complicated feelings about the 2005 movie The Family Stone. He described it as both interesting and, surprisingly, one of the worst films he’s ever been in. Despite this, he told E! that his family now watches it every holiday season.
Hamm said they usually watch one of two movies during the holidays: Die Hard, or—a bit of an unusual pick, but they see it nearly every year—The Family Stone.
The Mad Men actor confessed he keeps getting drawn back to a particular film, despite often questioning how good it actually is. He described it as a strangely compelling mix of family drama and comedy, praising its incredible cast while simultaneously admitting, “Every time I watch it, I think it might be the worst movie I’ve ever seen.”
The movie The Family Stone boasts a talented cast featuring Diane Keaton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams, and Claire Danes. It tells the story of a very proper businesswoman who attempts to navigate the chaotic and quirky dynamics of her boyfriend’s family during the Christmas holiday. According to Hamm, the combination of these personalities and the holiday mayhem is both stressful and surprisingly captivating.
You know, I initially had some serious issues with this film, but something strange happened – it actually started to win me over. I found myself thinking about it, revisiting scenes in my head. As I was reflecting on it, I realized that’s often what great art does, isn’t it? It doesn’t immediately click, but it stays with you and demands you reconsider. It’s completely baffling, honestly, but I guess that’s the point.
Besides his annual holiday traditions, Jon Hamm has some exciting work coming up. He’ll be back for season two of the Apple TV+ thriller Your Friends & Neighbors, which starts streaming April 3rd. The show centers on a reformed hedge fund manager who now leads a double life as a suburban thief, and features a talented cast including Amanda Peet, Olivia Munn, and new addition James Marsden.
I’m really excited about everything Demetri Martin has going on! He just wrapped up filming this hilarious R-rated comedy, Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass, with John Slattery and David Wain directing – it sounds wild! And on top of that, he’s still part of the Landman series, which is totally different. He’s so good at jumping between funny roles and really dramatic ones – it’s amazing to watch!
By 2026, Hamm is still a well-known actor, and a third season of his show, Your Friends & Neighbors, is already confirmed. He recently shared that, like everyone else, he has quirky habits—even admitting to rewatching movies he doesn’t particularly enjoy.
