We’re Ready for a ‘Pyro Is a Gothic Romance Novelist’ Disney+ Series (And Aaron Stanford Is Too)

As a dedicated Marvel Comics fan and avid reader of Pyro’s gothic romance novels, I am beyond excited about the prospect of a Disney+ Marvel series centered around Pyro’s life as a novelist. Aaron Stanford‘s portrayal of Pyro in various X-Men movies left me craving for more – especially when it came to his hidden talent as a gothic romance writer.

Marvel has explored various genres through its MCU films and shows. However, there’s one popular genre missing – “romantasy.” To propose an idea if Marvel intends to expand the MCU audience, how about a Disney+ series centered around Pyro’s life as a gothic romance novelist? Starring Aaron Stanford in this role could make for an unforgettable experience.

For comic book enthusiasts of Marvel, it’s common knowledge that Pyro, aka St. John Allerdyce, possesses more than just the ability to control fire; he is also a journalist and an accomplished gothic romance novelist. Yes, the fiery tempered character pens intriguing tales filled with haunted manors, supernatural occurrences, insanity, crumbling structures, lace corsets, and much more. Although we don’t have extensive information about Pyro’s gothic novels, we do know some of their titles such as “The Burning Within” and “Men Overboard.” Furthermore, one of his upcoming gothic romances is titled “The Secret Tides of Salt Wives,” which revolves around a love story between an Australian sailor and a woman, with the added element of a vampire invasion. Below you’ll find an excerpt from Pyro’s gothic romance novel (from “Marauders” #23).

Aaron Stanford, the actor behind Pyro in “X2: X-Men United,” “X-Men: The Last Stand,” and the MCU’s “Deadpool” and “Wolverine,” has expressed his fascination with this side of the character. In an interview with TopMob, he mentioned that in “X2,” Pyro was portrayed differently than in Marvel Comics, which suited the “X-Men” film series. However, Stanford lamented that in the comics, Pyro is a gothic romance novelist – a captivating element that could have been explored in the movies. Unfortunately, this aspect of Pyro’s character doesn’t seem to be incorporated into his roles in “Deadpool” and “Wolverine.”

At TopMob, we propose to Stanford that there’s potential for deeper exploration of this Pyro aspect at Stanford, to which he replies, “Let’s bring it to life.” Consequently, we are committed to making it a reality. The MCU is delving into Marvel’s horror comics with series like Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, and potentially Blade. However, the MCU has yet to venture into the realm of romance. Franchises such as Star Wars have been exploring love stories more extensively lately, so why can’t the MCU do the same? By integrating romance into the horror foundation the MCU has already established, it could create an intriguing and unique narrative.

A writer serves as an excellent base for crafting intriguing stories, as their minor plots can intertwine with the primary narrative. For instance, if the Pyro series by a gothic romance novelist were introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it could provide fascinating opportunities to explore various tales using existing characters. The MCU could experiment with new storytelling techniques, such as combining live-action and animation, making for an exciting and unique viewing experience. Furthermore, the current popularity of gothic romance makes it a missed opportunity for the MCU not to delve into this genre.

I’m thrilled that Aaron Stanford’s Pyro is returning in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” but a part of me can’t help feeling unsatiated by just a cameo. That’s why I’m rooting hard for the Pyro mini-series, with Stanford at the helm, to materialize and give us more of the fiery mutant we crave.

Give us those literal and metaphorical flames; we’re ready!
