Liam Neeson Talks About the Favourite Role in His Career

It’s hard to fault any of Liam Neeson’s acclaimed performances, but he’s become best known recently for his role in the popular action film, Taken.

Working with director Pierre Morel on the film, Liam Neeson initially thought the script was a bit cheesy. He was particularly unsure about the now-famous line, “I have a particular set of skills,” feeling it was a bit overly dramatic and cliché, even though it was intended to be intimidating.

Liam Neeson admits the famous phone call scene felt a bit over-the-top, but he was thrilled by how popular the movie became. He initially expected it would go straight to DVD, maybe with a limited release in France.

However, after Fox created effective trailers and aired them during big sporting events, the film became a huge international success. Still, given that it’s an action-packed thriller, it makes sense that it might not be his most beloved role.

Interestingly, Neeson actually prefers one of his lesser-known, more dramatic films. While promoting Ordinary Love, he revealed that his favorite role is in the 1996 biographical film Michael Collins.

The historical drama centers on Collins, a key player in Ireland’s fight for independence in the early 1900s. Neeson explained that Collins was a divisive figure who helped create the modern Irish state, and controversially pioneered tactics similar to those used in modern terrorism by organizing small, separate groups to carry out attacks.

Neeson pointed out that Collins’ strategies were incredibly impactful and are still relevant today, studied and implemented by many different organizations. He mentioned that even during Israel’s founding in the 1940s, some agents used the name ‘Michael’ as a tribute to the Irish leader.

More than a century after his death, Michael Collins continues to be a controversial figure in both Ireland and Britain due to his complicated past. Despite this, actor Liam Neeson considers the film about Collins to be his most cherished work of his entire career, captivated by the depth of the character and the significance of the historical events.

Liam Neeson says he doesn’t dislike any acting roles, because he genuinely loves the craft. He especially enjoys the strong connections he makes with the cast and crew on every film set. He believes every project is a learning experience, regardless of whether the movie is a success or not. Neeson continues to work steadily, and his latest film, Cold Storage, premiered on February 13th. It’s a horror-comedy where he plays Robert Quinn, a former bioterrorism agent who teams up with Joe Keery (from Stranger Things) and Georgina Campbell (from Barbarian) to contain a dangerous prehistoric fungus.

The actor demonstrated his talent for comedy in the new Naked Gun movie, playing the role of Frank Drebin Jr. He’s also starring in the upcoming heist comedy 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank, which will be released on April 17th.
